This very lovely lamp shade is from the estate of a 98 year old lady who was a decorator. This art glass bell shaped shade is signed Quezal with a special stylus that leaves a platinum or silver signature along the interior of the fitter rim, which is the part that adheres to the lighting fixture. There are a couple of tiny chips on that edge as well, one is approximately 2/10ths of a cm and the other is 1/2 cm. There are a few maker's marks on the interior in the form of skipped glaze. These things neither affect the beauty of the shade nor its function. The ribbed or bridged shade is 4 1/2" tall and 5" in diameter and has a delicate scalloped bottom. I just love the style of this shade and my inner self wants to call it a squash shade! But that would definitely make Martin Bach, Sr., the maker of Quezal glass, a bit irate if he were still here. He gave away many of his pieces of beautiful glass and even settled his debts with his wares. He died in 1921 leaving unfilled orders totaling $350,000 ~ quite a sum for that time. This shade has a satiny feel and a rainbow iridescence. Owning a piece of Quezal glass is having a piece of Deco elegance at your fingertips.
