Submitted for your consideration is a wonderful early Harold Altman lithograph entitled “Seated Woman” that was done in 1975. Harold Altman (1924-2003) was born in New York City in 1924. He attended the Art Students League, the Black Mountain College, the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris, and was a graduate of the Cooper Union Art School. He is represented in nearly every significant collection in the world. New York's Museum of Modern Art owns over forty Altman’s while the Whitney and Brooklyn Museums each have over fifty of his works in their permanent collections. His work is to be found in many museum collections outside of the United States, several of which are the Victoria and Albert Museum of London, the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, the Kunst Museum of Basel, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Copenhagen and the Bibliotheque Nationale of Paris.

This is a wonderful work by this incredibly talented and popular artist. The venue is a park, a traditional setting for one of Altman’s works. A solitary figure, a woman, is seated in a chair escaping the hot rays of the afternoon sun by positioning herself in the shade of a magnificent tree. The soft muted colors of the work are enchanting. The viewer is seduced into a scene of serenity and this work helps to explain the universal acclaim that is Altman’s.

The image size of this print is 10.5” by 7.875”, and the framed work measures 18” by 15”. The print’s condition is excellent while the frame needs to have its backing replaced as shown in the photographs. This is the 53rd copy of an edition of 185 as designated in pencil, a very small number that is certain to sustain if not increase the value of the work. The name of the print and the artist’s signature are also in pencil on the bottom of the artwork. We can offer this exciting example of a master artist’s work for $850.00.
