Dedicated to Finding Value as well as Beauty!
This work is from the Divine Comedy Suite, and it is woodcut #25 from the Purgatory. It is entitled “The Lustful” and it summons up the image of sinners paying for their passionate lives in Heaven’s holding area. Please note Dali’s classic surrealistic convention that is fully at work in this wonderful print. The featureless figures, far too numerous to count appear to be swirling in the winds of the emotion that dictated their human behavior. The coloring is exquisite. The figures are shown in various shades of brown, while an angelic image in red hovers above the multitude and foreboding grey images appears to be commanding their activities.
This print is signed in the block and it also bears the embossed signature of the printmaker Jean Estrade whose rendition of the Divine Comedy suite is in great demand. The frame on this work is simple yet tastefully elegant. The frame is made of gilt colored wood, and a subtle double matte accents the print beautifully. The framed image measures 15.5” by 12” and the print itself is 11” by 9.5”. The condition of the frame and the print is excellent. We can offer this amazing work from one of the past century’s greatest artist for $925.00.
