Hand crafted in our own woodworking shop at Sweetpea Cottage, this classic bent wood box is a unique item reflecting the simplicity of fine folk art, made in the traditional manner of the Norwegian tines, or tina, combined with the simplicity of the Shaker box. It can stand on its own as a piece of art, or it would make an excellent conversation piece, storage box for desk detritus, or jewelry box. For years now, our tines made at Sweetpea Cottage have been eagerly sought by discriminating collectors of fine artisan wood items.

Crafted like a piece of fine furniture, this is an elegantly styled bent wood box, with beautiful, graceful lines and rich color. This box has been entirely constructed with quartersawn white oak emphasizing the beautiful grain and color of the wood that was so popular in Mission, or Stickley, furniture during the Arts and Crafts movement. It has been steam bent and fastened together with the clinched copper tacks that were used by traditional Shaker artisans. The oak has a rich brown color emphasizing the fleck pattern in the grain and it will continue to enrich with age. The corner posts are cut in a simple “fiddlehead fern” pattern that is standard on traditional tines. The lid snaps down tightly onto the corner posts, giving this type of box the nickname “snap box.” It is a beautiful interpretation of the traditional Norwegian , Swedish, or Scandinavian, tine.

The box measures about 7 1/4 inches long and about 3 3/4 inches wide. The total height is 4 1/4 inches, with the body of the box standing 2 ½ inches tall. The wood has been finished with a Danish oil, then protected with several coats of a polyurethane/oil finish, and finally hand-rubbed with high quality wax.
