Tiffany & Co. Makers Bronze & Silver Plated Box

This box is so cool. The bronze has been cast to look like wood grain on the box's four sides & exterior lid. The bronze faux wood grain areas are superbly detailed & in excellent plus condition with no deep scratches, dents or chomps. There are a few maker's flaw spots where the selective silver plate has flowed into the faux wood grain lines (see photo #8 for example). The top has been enameled with "Cigarettes". The enamel is in excellent condition with surface only nicks & scratching (see photo #8). The box's smooth bronze rims, base & interior lid have been silver plated. The plate is in excellent minus condition. Of course you can find occasional wear along edge rims & on the base (photo #4) you find expected wear & abrasion due to sliding across a table. On the exterior sides & top you can also find some 1/8" to 1/64" surface scratches/nicks to plate. I did find 1 small chomp/ding to a bottom rim at the front of the box (see photo # 8). On the box's bottom rim it is 1/16" - on the front of the box it is a 6/32" long line disturbance in the plate along the bottom rim. When the box sits on the table this disappears. The plate on the interior lid has light surface scratching/swirling from use & cleaners. There is also a 1/16" deeper scratch in the top right corner shaped like < & a 2 1/8" long scratch close to the hinge area on the lower left. You can see both of these in photo #7. The box's hinge is all original with no repairs & is in smooth working order. It opens & closes with the flip of the lid & has never had a closure. The interior of the box has it's original wood liner. This neat, imagnative box is approx. 3 3/4" long x 2 3/4" wide & 1 3/4" deep. Besides the marks in photo #5 the base & lid also have an impressed "18" which is probably a part number. There is also a very very faint engraved 2820. This is most likely an inventory number. As to the age of this box, it was made before 1931 as Tiffany no longer did electro-plate after this date-per Rainwater. We do not know the meaning of the "N" in the marks. We believe the box to be circa 1900.
