The model #411 diminutive (10-1/2" tall) circa 1880s, German fashion doll is a scarce mold number made by the Simon & Halbig Porcelain Factory in Thuringia, Germany.
Beautifully molded, creamy bisque lady has a domed head on a shapely shoulder plate. The facial features include beautiful almond eye cuts with inset brown glass eyes, painted upper and lower eyelashes, single stroke pale brown brows, accented nostrils and lips on the closed mouth.
The coloring is pale with lightly and evenly blushed cheeks. The modeling is crisp with wonderful definition around the eyes, with enhanced bone structure modeling in the temple area. Her blonde curly mohair wig is long and flows down past her shoulders and is very flattering.
Marks: "411 - 2/0" on back of shoulder plate.
The original cloth body is made of pink polished cotton with stitch joints, beautiful bisque lower arms with lovely long fingers, and bisque lower legs with ribbed stockings and one strap black shoes. One leg is broken off below the knee.
The doll is dressed in her factory original two piece gown over elaborate lace-trimmed undergarments. The bodice, which is made of watered silk, is extremely fragile and shredding but the trims are in tact as shown.
Condition: Perfect head with no chips, cracks or repairs to the bisque head. Body has one broken off bisque lower leg. Bodice of gown is melting. Because of the broken leg, we have priced the doll well below the book value which is in excess of $3,500 in the 14" size. See pg 52 of the 16th Blue Book. For more information see "200 Years of Dolls 3rd Edition" page 340.
Lovely, highest quality German bisque fashion lady doll in a small 10-1/2" size and a sought after and very seldom seem mold.
