Beautiful 57 piece flatware set of quality German nickel silver C.1920. In1823,Germany won the competition to produce silver as close to sterling as possible. Never needs polishing retaining its luster but looking and feeling more like sterling than stainless. A good weight to all pieces. This particular set belonged to a US doctor and his wife who traveled worldwide and purchased this set in Germany. As they owned other complete sets of sterling flatware was evidently used for the beauty and easy care. Foods such as salt and acid do not seem to affect. Each piece is marked on the back of the handles "Nickel Silver" and the knife blades marked "stainless".The set includes 6 knives each 9 inches long,11 salad forks each 6 1/2 inches long,12 dinner forks 7 1/2 inches long,11 long handled teaspoons,7 soup spoons,3 large serving spoons,1 sugar shell,1 butter knife,1 gravy ladle,round serving spoon,1 meat fork,1 smaller round serving spoon,1 forked serving spoon. Enclosed in a beautiful wooden Gorham tarnish free lined silver chest. All in excellent condition. Chest measures 17L X 12D X 3.75H.
