A most excellent large shell cameo from the Victorian era with no chips or cracks. The large cameo is set in a solid silver with an old fashioned C clasp. The pin extends beyond the frame as is typical from that era. The setting is fitted with a generous bale to accommodate a chain also. The carving of this beautiful lady is crisp and delicate revealing the Roman shape to her nose and the detail of her hair. The carving also uncovers three layers of shell so she shows a strong profile and color in her hair and on her costume. A butterfly (which represents the soul) sits on one of her shoulders and a large flower on the other. Around her neck hangs a necklace accented with a .07 ctw brilliant cut genuine diamond. The silver setting is unmarked but guaranteed to be solid silver.
